TECHNICAL REPORT
GREENHOUSE ALLIES PROJECT
Measurement of carbon sequestration
in small non-industrial forest plantations. (continued)
Acknowledgements
This project would not have occurred without the participation of the Allies. Their
contribution, from assistance in digging up trees to providing information about planting
histories, has been invaluable. The assistance of the project team, Hugh Harris, John
Macgregor-Skinner, and Richard Finlay-Jones from the three Regional Plantation Committees
in locating the Allies and managing things generally, and Trevor Gilson from Northpower* in
supplying the vehicle for the project is most appreciated. Brian Dawson, the manager of the
Greenhouse Allies Program within the Australian Greenhouse Office, has been consistently
encouraging and interested in the work, and Mark Jackson, the project officer for the project
with the AGO, has offered his advice and assistance unstintingly. Byron Yeo, the first
project officer, must be thanked for his valiant work in the field and laboratory, and Bevan
McBeth, who has taken over from Byron, has put his superb organisational skills to good use
already. The project advisory committee, who put in several hours at the planning workshop
must be thanked, in particular Prof. John Turner, Keith Lamb, David Cameron, John Carter,
Dr Christian Witte, and Prof Phil West. Prof. Jerry Vanclay and Dr Lyndon Brooks of SCU
gave invaluable statistical advice on confidence intervals and analyses. Finally, the project
would not have been possible without the assistance of several Southern Cross University
students who variously helped dig up trees, weighed samples, and stood over a hot LECO.
