Thinning Hardwood Plantations- A guide to Northern NSW

A new publication from Northern Rivers Private Forestry.

This guide was produced to assist landowners in managing their hardwood plantations to produce the highest possible returns. Specifically it provides information on how to develop a silvicultural strategy. The focus is on smaller plantations or woodlots although the information is applicable for any size plantation.

The book provides information on,

  1. The silvicultural characteristics that need to be considered when developing a thinning regime.
  2. How to measure the effects of competition in a plantation and thus when to thin.
  3. The practice of thinning such as what methods to use and the timing and intensity of a thinning operation.
  4. How to develop a thinning regime with example regimes.
