Granites & Red Soils
->      P:S 9:11

  (or high analysis equivalent)

Chocolate Basalts
-> Elemental Sulphur
@  25kgs/ha

Legumes must be lime pelleted, inoculated and treated with Mo trioxide powder at 150gms/ha.
Axillaris is a climbing twining legume, drought tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of soils.
Cassia is a non-climbing legume which tolerates low phosphorus levels and is particularly suited to sandier soils.
Bahia Grass does well on poor low nutrient soils.  Tolerates extremes of grazing pressure and is shade tolerant.
Maku Lotus

 WITH

 Bahia Grass

1kg/ha

 2kg/ha

Late Summer/Autumn

Summer/Early Autumn

As above
Maku Lotus is only recommended on wetter southerly aspects and wetter footslopes.
Can be combined with Cassia where necessary.

P:S = Phosphorus:Sulphur

Notes:

  1. Soil tests can be a useful guide in determining fertiliser rates.
  2. Both Cassia and Axillaris have a high percentage of hard seeds and may require scarification to ensure satisfactory germination rates.
  3. Siratro, a climbing twining legume, has established well under native forest in trials. It has potential to be used in place of Axillaris but does not tolerate heavy grazing.
