A PROFILE OF THE NORTHERN NSW PRIVATE FOREST RESOURCE AND THE PRIVATE NATIVE FOREST INDUSTRY
2. The 2005 Study Area
The 2002 report incorporated private native forests and plantations in 16 Local Government Areas:
- Ballina Shire
- Kyogle Shire
- Bellingen Shire
- Lismore Municipal Council
- Byron Shire
- Maclean Shire
- Coffs Harbour City Council
- Pristine Waters Shire
- Copmanhurst Shire
- Richmond Valley Shire
- Dumaresq Shire
- Severn Shire
- Grafton City Council
- Tenterfield Shire
- Guyra Shire
- Tweed Shire
These LGA’s were located within 4 northern NSW Timber Catchments as determined in
the 1998 Comprehensive Regional Assessment and subsequent Regional Forest Agreement.
Timber Catchment 1 incorporated Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Richmond Valley and Tweed Shires,
Lismore City Council, most of Tenterfield Shire and parts of Severn, Maclean and Copmanhurst Shires.
Catchment 2 incorporated Guyra and Pristine Waters Shires, Grafton and Coffs Harbour City Councils,
most of Severn Shire and parts of Tenterfield, Copmanhurst and Maclean Shires. Bellingen Shire
fell within Catchment 3 and Dumaresq Shire in Catchment 6.
Since 2002 there have been several LGA amalgamations. Pristine Waters, Grafton City and
Maclean LGA’s and all but a small area of Copmanhurst LGA have been incorporated into
the new Clarence Valley Council and there have been minor changes to the boundaries of
Coffs Harbour City and Richmond Valley LGA’s. These amalgamations and changes have resulted
in the 2005 study area incorporating the following LGA’s:
- Ballina Shire
- Kyogle Shire
- Bellingen Shire
- Lismore Municipal Council
- Byron Shire
- Richmond Valley Shire
- Clarence Valley Shire
- Severn Shire
- Coffs Harbour City Council
- Tenterfield Shire
- Dumaresq Shire
- Tweed Shire
- Guyra Shire
