Wood Property Report on Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum camphora) continued...

1. INTRODUCTION

Following a written request from Mr John Macgregor-Skinner of the Northern Rivers Regional Plantation Committee, the Queensland Forestry Research Institute (QFRI) has undertaken a series of small scale experiments to establish some basic wood property information on camphor laurel (Cinnamomum camphora). It is understood that camphor laurel trees are being removed from areas within northern New South Wales in the attempt to regenerate the areas with indigenous species. During this process, there has been interest generated in utilising the timber from the removed trees. This interest has uncovered a deficiency in basic wood property information on Australian grown camphor laurel. The following report summarises the results of wood property tests performed by QFRI.
